NYWatch is an independent, nonpartisan watchdog and advocacy organization dedicated to exposing corruption, misconduct, waste, and abuse of power within New York State and local government. Our mission is to advance transparency, accountability, and lawful governance by conducting rigorous investigative research, obtaining and analyzing public records, and publishing fact-based reporting that serves the public interest.

NYWatch works to ensure that New Yorkers have meaningful access to information about how government decisions are made, how public funds are spent, and whether public officials and agencies are complying with the law. We utilize lawful oversight tools—including New York’s Freedom of Information Law and other transparency mechanisms—to uncover information that would otherwise remain hidden from public view.

Through clear, accessible reporting and public education, NYWatch empowers citizens to understand government actions that affect their communities and to hold those in power accountable. Where credible evidence of wrongdoing or systemic failure is identified, we seek to elevate those findings to appropriate oversight, regulatory, or enforcement authorities. Our work is guided by a commitment to accuracy, independence, ethical journalism, and the principle that government exists to serve the people—not itself.

Vision

NYWatch envisions a New York where government operates transparently, lawfully, and in full view of the people it serves. We believe public institutions are strongest when they are accountable, ethical, and responsive, and when citizens have clear access to the information necessary to evaluate government actions. Our vision is a culture of governance in which corruption is deterred, misconduct is exposed, and public trust is restored through openness, oversight, and informed civic engagement.

Values

Transparency
We believe that openness is essential to democratic governance. Government records, decisions, and processes should be accessible to the public, except where narrowly and lawfully protected.

Accountability
Public officials and agencies must be held responsible for their actions. We support lawful oversight and consequences when power is abused or public trust is violated.

Independence
NYWatch operates independently of political parties, government agencies, and special interests. Our work is guided by facts, evidence, and the public interest—not ideology or influence.

Accuracy and Integrity
We are committed to careful research, factual accuracy, and responsible reporting. Our findings are grounded in verified information, primary source documents, and transparent methodologies.

Rule of Law
We believe government authority must be exercised within constitutional and statutory limits. Respect for the law is fundamental to legitimacy and public trust.

Public Service
Our work exists for the benefit of the people of New York. We seek to inform, educate, and empower citizens to participate meaningfully in civic life.

Ethical Oversight
We conduct our work with fairness, professionalism, and respect for due process. Allegations are evaluated carefully, and conclusions are based on evidence, not speculation.
